I haven't had that much fun at the movies since the last Lord of the Rings movie, save Iron Man.
Joss Whedon, who hasn't batted a thousand with me in my opinion, is to be commended for his writing and directing. The biggest thing I'm always concerned about when I see something written by him is "Who is he going to kill off?"
Well yes that happens in this film, too and I guess we should be grateful that these aren't "his" characters. I would see him killing off Iron Man or something.
But still...
It was amazing hos he balanced all these characters, most of which could hold their own film. Yes, it had a huge budget and yet there was a lot of CGI but it didn't take away from the characters, dialog or story. Speaking of dialog: not only are the scene with action entertaining, but even the scenes where people are just talking are still very entertaining. Kudos to the writing yet again and the actors for giving such great performances.
Speaking of actors, kudos to all of them for not having an ego in that they had to take center stage. That shows a great deal of professionalism. Even Gwenneth Paltrow appears briefly but much like the Harry Potter movies, her commitment to the character of Pepper Potts and the role the character plays in this universe is great.
I also commend Mark Ruffalo. Shame that Norton didn't want anything to do with the film, but oh well. His loss, in my opinion. Ruffalo plays Banner like a cursed man. Make no mistake, it is NOT a fun time to be the Hulk. Heck, Hulk has some of the best scenes in the movie.
Are you watching, DC? Marvel just raised the bar, YET AGAIN. Sure we have Batman later this year and Superman next year but I don't see a Justice League movie any time on the horizon.
Oh and if you haven't seen it yet, make sure you stay through the ENTIRE CREDITS! Joss Whedon's sense of humor shines through.
